Alecia Mainor-Quail
Kaiser Permanente, Antioch
daisy and aleciaWhen  Alecia Mainor-Quail learned that her position as medical records file clerk at Kaiser was being eliminated, she opted to explore other opportunities offered by Kaiser through the Education Fund. "I decided I wanted to be re-trained and stay at Kaiser," Mainor-Quail recalls. "They had the classes and support I needed to go through the transition. Kaiser took the extra step to give me the opportunity to move up and they offered several ways for me to do so. I don’t know many companies that do that." Education Fund Counselor Daisy Kinyauo helped Alecia develop a plan and take the classes she needed to bid into a new position. "When times got tough, when it seemed like the bidding was never going to come through, Daisy was there to keep me focused and positive. She told me to hang in there, get the training and it will come through and it did. I got something that I actually wanted." Alecia now works as a financial counselor at Kaiser’s new Antioch Medical Center. "I love my new job and not just because of the pay increase," she says. “I got promoted; I had a wonderful mentor who helped me all along the way. The pay is great, and I’m working with great people. It's been a really great opportunity for me." Asked whether she would recommend the Education Fund benefit to co-workers, Alecia says: "Definitely. For people who want to move up, the Education Fund is the way to go. It's there, if people want it. It's an opportunity for everybody."
